This is an infection caused by an organism parasite called Trichomonas Vaginalis. It is passed between sexual partners or contacts and is found in the vagina and urethra.

Have I got the Trichomonas infection?

Most genital infections are silent. In some women the infections causes an increased amount of watery and yellowish frothy discharge. It is associated with some unpleasant odour and irritation on the vulva, the external genitalia of the affected woman.

In men the infection sometimes causes a discharge and pain when passing urine. However, most infections with the Trichomonas Vaginalis lack any symptoms.

How can I be investigated for Trichomonas Infection?

If you suspect you may have Trichomoniasis, we will take swabs from the vagina and examine it under the microscope, or send it for laboratory tests. Taking the swab is straight forward and painless. For men, the sample is taken from the urethral opening at the tip of the penis.

How shall I be treated?

Treatment is easy using an oral antibiotic, usually Metronidazole, as a single dose.

What is cost of the treatment?

Consultation and treatment fees are agreed and set between One Stop Clinics and Insurance companies. If you are a self paying patient, you will receive a quotation at the outset. The cost is dependent on the number of visits you may require. There is a charge for consultations on top of treatment fees. All will be discussed in detail with you before you undergo any treatment.
